Dear Mother:-
I was given the morning off and as it is Sat. all the boys think I am indeed lucky. You know Sat. is inspection day and we have to roll everything in a pack and show it to the big gun. This makes a lot of work and then you run a chance of being bawled out. Now I must tell you why I was excused. I am moving again. An order came thru for my transfer and I am to be assigned to the headquarters company of this regiment. I think that it came from the dope they picked up on our education etc. They only took three of our names and Hump and the other fellow both had more education than me so I can't see why I was picked. I suppose they will get theirs later. This will be very good now for you because when we get over we will have just as much to do but we will be with Headquarters and they usually stay back of the front line apiece. This move will separate Hump and I and while we would like to stay together we were fortunate to be company this long. Last night when the mail was called out there surely was a shout when I received your package and the eats from the bride and groom. Everyone wanted to come down and call. They thot that it was all "eats". Things don't last long here because with eight in a tent a fellow must share up. But almost everyday there is a box for someone and that squares things. Surely was good candy and I enjoyed the taste of the cookies. Also I don't need anymore tea for awhile as I still have some of the other left. How is J. D. Hill been. One fellow at Camp Lee from Wilmerding was in bed six weeks from a shot and his friend here had a letter stating that he had died in a New York hospital where he had been taken for treatment by specialists. He contracted peritonitis of the stomack. I hope J.D. will not suffer likewise. T. Overholt must be making good as a flyer from what I hear. Well more power to him if I can't get that I'll try my darndest on foot.

Love to all.
Your loving son
Walter

P.S. You can send my mail the same till I get settled. I had another box yesterday from Florence. Candy.
