Dear Mother:-
Just started this and then we were called out for our first lesson in what we were to do as the flag comes down. We got here about one P.M. today and are all very tired now. The train made excellent time while it was going but we had to wait at Cumberland and Richmond for our grub. This is surely some camp. Everything is so much better than I expected to find it. They marched us up from the depot and all the old fellows were lined up all along the way tying to find out their friends. Everyone cheered and all were asking "where are you from" and "how do you think you will like your new home?” I met about six fellows I knew so was lucky enough not to have to carry my own luggage. After they called the roll and examined our stuff they marched us to our quarters and gave us our mess tins, two blankets, one quilt, a tick, comb, brush, toothbrush, soap, etc and then we all had a shower bath. They have a big bath house with warm water and in our quarters there is everything you could wish for. They heap your plate full at the table and the grub was fine. I am pretty tired and will close for this time. The weather is warm here and I hope I can stay.
