Dearest family: -
Now the time is near when I am about to embark on the great adventure. I am sorry that I couldn't see you before the time came. But it is just as well this way once you look at because Goodbyes are always hard and then one feels worse, they say, after a furlough. This is just a note to let you know that my spirits have picked up instead of waning and I am rearin to go. My head reels with the new and wonderful sights I have seen and I am anxious for more. Hump and the rest will sail along and they are still feeling fine. You must be patient for a few days till you hear from me again. I will get news to you as soon as possible you know. Time is precious now and I want to get this off. I send all my love to everyone and don’t worry.
Goodbye then for a short while.

Write !

Lovingly,
Your son.
