Dearest Mother:-
We are still in this one-horse village but hope to move soon. Moving seems to be held up somewhat with epidemics, quarantines, etc. We'll be with you one of these days tho and then this will all be old stuff.
I received your letter of Jan. 9th and also one from Uncle Will. It seems that our beloved and esteemed is in some disfavor since his honeymoon over here. Well there's only one thing to it and that is he had a big job and went about his work conscientiously but now it looks like he meant to propose the bubble of Idealism around the world. It will be a soft run for the guy who gets the nomination on the GOP next election. I think the Democrats are due for another long rest.
We have built a theatre here and last night we gave our first show. It was some show. Two days rehearsal! No- I wasn't in this one. Sort of layed off that stuff.
There has been a slight snowfall for over a week and the weather is cold. It is a relief from the rainy weather we did have. I am still looking forward to sailing next month and don't want to be disappointed. It is almost one year now since I left and I'm ready to return tout-de-suite.
Did you ever receive the airplane pictures I sent you? You noted having received the maps and orders but said nothing about the pictures. I wanted them most of all because they were taken on the sectors where we fought.
I believe I'm going to beat Ben home at that. We hear that we are on the priority list. Did Grandma Humphries ever get my letter? I wrote to them soon after I heard that Hump was dead. No, mother, I never received your testament and I'm sorry I didn't get your other letters. Some of my mail was being sent to Div. Hdq. instead of Reg. Hdq. about that time and no doubt that is where the mixup was. We can't complain about the mail however, because we have been very lucky.
I received Grace’s letter of Jan. 2nd and can't understand why she don't hear more often from Ben. He must have had his arm shot off. That can be the grounds of the first quarrel when he comes home!
I am enclosing a few more orders and an extract from our Div. Diary concerning the 77th or N. Y. Div. Penna. and N. Y. troops got along about as good in this war as in previous wars but I'll tell you more about their fighting ability later on.
I suppose dad is about back to his old swing by this time. Does his hernia ever bother anymore? I can't think of any thing very interesting to tell you just now but I'm looking for mail again today and I'll ans. that and maybe think of something more by that time. Love and kisses for you all from,

 Your loving son

Walter
