Dear Mother and Family:-

Well we don't seem to be able to move on any further. Still camping in the wood shed by the Meuse. I have received your letter of Jan. 31, '19, Florence's letter and card, Grace’s letter and card of that same date. Was sorry to hear of the recent deaths from the "flu", and glad to hear that Ruth had found some way to alleviate her suffering. No use to moan over Hump because well he's gone and it wouldn't help.
Yesterday I spent with Fratz and the other "Miers." I met "Wap" Bailey and Skeetz Sunday. First I had seen any of them since we left Hancock. One year ago today I left home. Sometimes it don't seem that long and others it seems longer. Well you don't want to let the rumours written home nor the “Herald” to stop you writing because we have lots of time to read letters yet. I'll be celebrating my 26th birthday over here from the latest reports. Here is what we had from G.H.Q. Saturday and is based upon the accessability of transportation as to hurrying up or delay. That is we may go earlier and then ----------- we may go later.
March                    April                      May                               June
27 Div.                  26 Div.                  32 Div.                          89 Div.

85   "                      82   "                      33   "                               29   "

This is given out from General Hdq. and is subject to change. It is a great boost to the morale of the troops to know at least when they may expect to go. If this works out as listed Ben and I will be home in May a few weeks apart.
I was sorry to hear about him loosing his hearing. That was tough! Why don't he go home? Lots are getting out on less than that. We are glad to know when we will start back because as it was we were going every week and never got started. Soon as I heard the news I put in for a furlough to Paris. Expect to go in a few weeks. Keller and I are planning to go together if it can be worked. I had a short time there last Spring but didn't see half the sights. I want to do Paris again and also Versailles because thee are some greater sights to see and just now it is where history is being made. Then later I am going to try for another to visit Humps resting place. The information I collected about where he was buried I sent to Ruth.
Suppose Florence is back to work again after her stay at home. You can tell her for me that if I were her I'd steer clear of any nursing in either the Army of Navy. It is no good and the ones to be nursed are poor stuff mostly. I know what I'm speaking of.
I’m sending you an article I read in Colliers and which I think is a good description of our first days in the Argonne. Last week our entire regiment marched to Domency (Sp) and held services in the church where Joan D' Arc had her vision. We all lined up before her statue in the yard surrounding her birthplace and after a talk by the Chaplain "presented arms" while the band played the Marseillaise.
I bought some small trinkets in the house where she was born and will send them under separate cover. This leaves me in fine fettle and I hope you are all well and we'll meet some time in June. Love to all!

 Your loving son
Walter

P.S. Spring is almost here and the weather is fine. WHL
